Life Path Number Calculator

In Pythagorean numerology, your Life Path number comes from reducing your full date of birth to a single digit, with 11, 22 and 33 preserved as master numbers. It's traditionally read as the broad theme of a life — a prompt for reflection, not a verdict.

What is a Life Path number?

In Pythagorean numerology, the Life Path number is calculated from your date of birth: the month, the day and the year are each reduced, then added and reduced once more. It is traditionally used as a broad theme to reflect on — the kind of terrain a life tends to cover — rather than a list of traits.

Numerology is an interpretive tradition, not a measurement. Nothing here is a scientific account of personality, and no number decides your work, relationships or future. Read it the way you'd read a recurring image in a dream: useful if it tells you something you recognise, discardable if it doesn't.

How is your Life Path number calculated?

Mirror Aura reduces the month, the day, and the digit sum of the year separately, keeping 11, 22 and 33 intact wherever they appear. The three results are added, and that total is reduced the same way.

Worked example: March 28, 1986.

  • Month: 3 → 3.
  • Day: 28 → 2 + 8 = 10 → 1 + 0 → 1.
  • Year: 1 + 9 + 8 + 6 = 24 → 2 + 4 → 6.
  • Total: 3 + 1 + 6 = 10 → 1 + 0 → 1.

Life Path = 1. Had any of those steps landed on 11, 22 or 33, the reduction would have stopped there.

About master numbers 11, 22 and 33

Under the rule Mirror Aura uses, 11, 22 and 33 are preserved wherever they turn up in the calculation instead of being reduced to 2, 4 and 6. That is a convention of the system, and it is not universal: some practitioners only preserve them in the final total, others reduce them entirely.

Interpretations differ just as much. A common reading treats them as more demanding versions of the numbers they reduce to — the same terrain, held to a harder standard. Nothing about them implies rank, destiny or a measurable difference; if your total is a master number, it's an invitation to read both it and its reduced form and see which one is actually describing your life.

Questions about the Life Path

What is a master number in numerology?+
11, 22 and 33 are known as master numbers. In the system this calculator uses they are preserved at each step instead of being reduced to a single digit. How they should be interpreted varies between numerology traditions — some read them as more demanding versions of 2, 4 and 6, others treat them separately.
Why doesn't my name affect my Life Path number?+
The Life Path is derived from the birth date alone. The name-based numbers — Expression, Soul Urge and Personality — are calculated separately and are traditionally read as describing different aspects of a numerology profile.
Can my Life Path number change?+
The calculation doesn't change, because it comes from a birth date that doesn't change. That is a statement about the arithmetic, not about you: how you read the number, and how your life actually unfolds, are open.
What if my Life Path reduces to 11, 22, or 33 mid-calculation?+
Under the rule used here, master numbers are preserved wherever they appear. If the reduced month, day, year or final total equals 11, 22 or 33, the reduction stops there.
Is the Life Path number the most important number in numerology?+
Many numerology traditions treat it as the headline number, because it comes from the birth date and is usually calculated first. Other practitioners weight the name-based numbers just as heavily. It's a convention within an interpretive system rather than an objective ranking.
